چکیده
Purpose: to investigate the effectiveness of a pharyngeal bulb prosthesis eliminate hypernasality in patients with operated cleft palate presenting diagnosis hypodynamic velopharynx. Methods: twenty palate, ages 11-40 years, velopharynx participated study. Patients had their speech audio recorded twice, and without prosthesis, simultaneously nasometry. Three speech-pathologists rated presence absence hypernasality. Perceptual nasometric data were compared, using McNemar Test (p<0.05). Results: three (15%) presented normal resonance 3 (15%), 9 (45%), 5 (25%), both conditions. Nasometry (≤27% cut off): 1 (5%), scores >27% <27% 2 (10%), 17 (85%), conditions, 1(5%), The comparisons between results not significant (p=1.000). Conclusion: alone is insufficient To this purpose, combination therapy required.

Interim palatal lift prosthesis as a constituent of multidisciplinary approach in the treatment of velopharyngeal incompetence
The velopharynx is a tridimensional muscular valve located between the oral and nasal cavities, consisting of the lateral and posterior pharyngeal walls and the soft palate, and controls the passage of air. Velopharyngeal insufficiency may take place when the velopharyngeal valve is unable to perform its own closing, due to a lack of tissue or lack of proper movement. Treatment options include ...
متن کاملEvaluation of a modular palatal lift prosthesis with a silicone velar lamina for hypernasal patients.
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM Speech bulbs and palatal lift prostheses are used to improve oral-nasal balance in speakers with hypernasality resulting from velopharyngeal dysfunction. Fabricating such speech prostheses is often a protracted process, and the nasopharyngeal impression can be uncomfortable for the client. PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to develop and test a modular palatal lift pr...
متن کاملHydroxyurea Can Reduce or Eliminate Transfusion Requirements in Children with Major and Intermediate Thalassemia
Background: Hydroxyurea (HU) is a well known chemotherapeutic agent that has been used largely for various myeloproliferative diseases over the past 20 years. In β-thalassemia, the effect of HU is much less clear and remains controversial. This study was undertaken to describe the hematologic and clinical responses of thalassemia major and intermediate patients to HU treatment during 2 years. M...
متن کاملMolecular characterization of microduplication 22q11.2 in a girl with hypernasal speech.
We present a 12-year-old girl with karyotype 46,XX. A comparative genomic hybridization array revealed a 3.172-Mb microduplication on 22q11.2. This chromosome 22q11.2 region microduplication has been described in patients with variable phenotypes; a large majority of them have identical 3-Mb duplications. The girl presented mild mental motor retardation, facial dysmorphism consisting of a ...
